Cardiology Service

Cardiology is the area of medicine that is responsible for the study of diseases of the heart and the great vessels.

The heart is a muscular organ with four cavities that contract with a determined sequence, pumping the blood that the organism needs. The contraction of the muscular fibers is controlled by an electrical current that crosses the heart by different trajectories and at controlled speed.

We have individualized cardiovascular check-ups, customized to the needs of each patient. In our check-ups, you will have an exhaustive medical history and a complete cardiovascular examination, as well as you can have an electrocardiogram, an echocardiogram and an effort test. All this accompanied by a complete blood sample which include the realization of all the analytical factors of cardiovascular risk.

ELECTROCARDIOGRAM (EKG)
It records the electrical activity of the heart that occurs in each heartbeat, through the placement of a series of electrodes and it is drawn on a paper by a path, where different waves are observed representing the electrical stimuli of the atria and ventricles.
DOPPLER COLOR ECOCARDIOGRAPHY
It is a basic and innocuous diagnostic test based on ultrasound. It provides information about the shape, size, function, strength of the heart, movement and thickness of its walls and the functioning of its valves.
EFFORT TEST OR ERGOMETRY
It consists of performing physical exercise on a treadmill for the study of chest pain or symptoms suggestive of heart disease, and also to assess the response of the heart to exercise.

Ischemic heart disease is the disease caused by arteriosclerosis of the coronary arteries, which provide the blood supply to the heart muscle. No symptoms occur until the stenosis of the coronary artery is so severe that it causes a loss of balance between the supply of oxygen to the myocardium and its needs. In these cases, myocardial ischemia (stable angina pectoris) or sudden occlusion due to thrombosis of the artery leading to Acute Coronary Syndrome (unstable angina and acute myocardial infarction) occurs.

STRESS ECHOCARDIOGRAM
It is an ultrasound after having performed an effort test or injecting a drug that accelerates the heart. It is used in patients with dubious chest pain, in patients who can not walk fast or where the basal electrocardiogram is altered.
MONITORING OF ELECTROCARDIOGRAM (ECG HOLTER)
It is a device of small size that registers and stores the electrocardiogram of the patient for more than 24 hours, making a normal life. It is usually used in patients with suspected cardiac arrhythmia. We have monitoring t-shirts to do a longer record of the cardiac activity.

The electrical current that gives rise to each beat originates in the sinus node located in the upper part of the upper right cavity of the heart (right atrium). The speed at which this nodule discharges the electric current determines the heart rate. This speed is influenced by nerve impulses and by the concentrations of certain hormones in the bloodstream.

ARTERIAL BLOOD PRESSURE MONITORING (ABPM)
It is a device that records the patient’s arterial pressures over a long period (usually 24 hours). It allows the diagnosis of arterial hypertension and its control.

Hypertension means greater resistance for the heart, which responds by increasing its muscle mass (left ventricular hypertrophy) to cope with this overexertion. The increase in muscle mass ends up being harmful because it is not accompanied by an equivalent increase in blood flow and can lead to coronary insufficiency and angina. As a result of the effort of the heart muscle can suffer arrhythmias
