Cardiovascular Surgery Service

We perform a global approach to the patient with cardiac, aortic or peripheral vascular pathology, addressing the cardiovascular pathology that frequently affects several levels.

We have the best technical and human resources to carry out all the most advanced diagnoses and cardiovascular treatments thanks to the collaboration with the best Private Hospitals of the area of Malaga.

The services offered range from the basic vascular check up to the complex thoracic or thoracoabdominal aortic interventions:

Aortic aneurysm
An aneurysm is a globe-shaped deformity in an artery. Arteries are blood vessels that carry oxygen-rich blood to your body. They have thick walls to withstand normal blood pressure. But sometimes due to medical causes, genetic disorders and injuries among others, their walls can be damaged. The force of blood pushing against weakened or wounded walls can lead to an aneurysm.

An aneurysm can grow and break (burst) or be dissected. A rupture causes dangerous bleeding inside the body. A dissection is a division into one or more layers of the arterial wall. The division causes bleeding within and along the layers of the artery wall.

Both rupture and dissection are often fatal.

These surgeries are carried out in our reference hospital centers equipped with the latest technology.

Heart surgery
Among them: coronary surgery and vascular surgery.
Peripheral Vascular Surgery
If the arteries become narrowed or occluded, the irrigated area suffers ischemia (lack of blood supply) and the affected tissues will produce symptoms depending on the location.

To redirect circulation to the affected area we can develop the following surgical techniques:

  • Bypass or bridge: it is a matter of connecting a new conduit between both zones, omitting the occluded or stenotic zone. The conduit to be used may be the patient’s own (usually saphenous vein in the leg) or a Gore-tex or Dacron prosthesis.
  • Endarterectomy: it consists of cleaning the artery inside and then reconstructing it with the help of a patch if necessary. It is the technique most frequently used in carotid surgery.
  • Angioplasty-stent: it consists of dilating the narrow artery with a catheter that carries an inflatable balloon. Later it would usually be necessary to place a “spring” or “stent” that is responsible for keeping the artery open and prevent it from collapsing.
Venous pathology (phlebology / varicose veins)
Veins are blood vessels that carry blood from the tissues of the body to the heart. The veins have valves that work in only one direction and cause blood to flow to the heart. If the valves weaken or injure, the blood begins to accumulate in the veins. This causes the veins to swell, which can cause varicose veins.

Usually, varicose veins do not cause medical problems. If they do, the doctor can simply recommend changes in lifestyle.

Sometimes varicose veins cause pain, blood clots, skin ulcers and other problems. If this happens, the doctor may recommend one or more procedures. Some people choose to undergo these procedures to improve the appearance of varicose veins or to relieve pain.
